It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Smuggling fetches money for insurgents

North east insurgents have been resorting to illicit trade in drugs and fake currency to make money.This was what Mukul Sahay said when the additional DGP was talking to reporters in Guwahati in the sidelines of a FICCI function on Tuesday.Sahay said funds to these insurgents come mainly from the smugglers to ensure their safety and security. He observed that funds, mostly, comes from tobacco, drugs and fake currency rackets in the entire north eastern region.He observed that illicit trade has yet to be accorded priority because of traditional crimes like insurgency and ethnic clash.

Kalam’s last rites on Thursday

The lifeless APJ Abdul Kalam will be flown to his native town Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday to be buried amid on Thursday.The last rites of the late leader will be held in his native place. Farewell to Kalam

Amid a pall of gloom the lifeless Kalam was flown to New Dellhi on Tuesday morning a day after the former President died a sudden death in Shillong.Before being air dashed to Guwahati, Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmughanathan, Home Minister Roshan Warjri, Assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal and Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guards R.K. Sharma accompanied paid last respect to the noted scientist in Shillong.He collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong on Monday. Later he passed away at the Bethany Hospital. 

ACS officer in gangrape!

Gauhati High Court on Saturday is expected to hear the sensational gangrape case of Diphu where two minor girls were raped by an ACS officer along with his three associates two months back.Police officials probing the case are fully prepared to submit the findings charging Pradip Timung of raping the minors before his trafficking effort. The deputy director of panchayat & rural development was accompanied by Hemari Kro and Biren Kro, officials of the inspector of school office and Anthony Phangcho who is an official of a conservation NGO.The incident took place in May. But initially police investigation refused to progress forcing people to move the court. 

Red alert after Gurudaspur attack

Gurudaspur firing has forced Assam to be kept on alert on Tuesday. Hours after the fierce fighting, Dispur has sent red alert to avert such terror attacks. According to sources, ULFA, NDFB and Jehadis have been trying to sabotage the peace efforts in the state. The Assam government further has sought more central forces to better manage the law and order situation.Notably, militants in army uniform sprayed bullets on a moving bus and stormed a police station, killing six persons, including an SP in Gurdaspur on Monday. 

Immortal Kalam: Gogoi

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will be remembered for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of science and technology.Paying his last respect to the lifeless Kalam, Gogoi said that the entire world would remember him.
