It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A businessman was killed and another sustained injury when suspected NDFB-S militants exploded a powerful grenade in Dalgaon on Saturday night. The incident took place near the office of the Bargang Tea Estate when two motorcycle born militants lobbed the grenade at the tea garden office. Businessman Kavil Chand Jain was killed on the spot while Ramakanta Tiwari who is a staffer at the tea garden sustained serious injury. The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the Saradha scam got Sadananda Gogoi in five days custody a day after the investigation agency arrested him in connection with the multi crore scam.CBI’s special Crime branch got five days custody when the popular singer and film maker was produced before the Alipore court in the afternoon.The judge granted the remand to the investigation agency till September 17.Gogoi was arrested at the Kolkata office after five hours of interrogation for his alleged role in the link between Saradha chief Sudipto Sen and a circle of ministers, MLAs and businessmen.
Amid mammoth security arrangement, polling in Jamunamukh is over as soon as the clock struck at 5 in the afternoon with a huge turn out.The polling was by and large peaceful where no major incident or anomalies were reported. The Chennai police have busted a notorious human trafficking racket in Assam arresting a 25-year-old man on Friday.Police caught the person from Assam acting on inputs by an autorickshaw driver who got wind of the conversation between the suspect from Guwahati Mainool with a teashop owner at the Koyambedu bus terminus.He allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from the shop owner to deploy the child there. CBI probing the Saradha scam arrested Sadananda Gogoi to extract more inputs on the multi crore scam. The country’s premier investigation agency arrested Gogoi on Friday to probe Saradha boss Sudipto Sen’s alleged link with political leaders, police officials and businessmen in Guwahati. He was arrested at CBI’s Kolkata office after questioning him for several times in the first week of September. Gogoi is believed be the main linkman between Sen and MLA Himanta Biswa Sarma, former DGP Sankar Baruah.
