It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Stage set for Jamunamukh bypolls

The ruling Congress has fielded Rajdeep Goala while Sanjay Kumar Thakur is the BJP nominee.AIUDF is fielding Mukesh Pandey in the constituency. The counting will take place on September 16.  Bypoll was required following death of sitting legislator Dinesh Prasad Goala.

Silchar all set for bypolls today

The stage is all set for by polls in Silchar along with Jamunamukh and Lakhipur. Amid tight security, poll officials are leaving for their assigned booths with electronic voting machines on Friday morning where 206,573 voters are set to decide on the fate of 12 candidates.Polling will begin at 7 in the morning which will conclude at 5 in the afternoon. The results would be available on September 16.The assembly constituency is holding a straight fight between the BJP's Dilip Paul and the Congress's Arun Dutta Mazumder.By-election for the Silchar seat was necessitated by Congress legislator Susmita Dev's election to the Lok Sabha.

FIR against Gautom Roy

Cachar district returning officer has filed an FIR against senior cabinet minister Gautam Roy alleging violation of poll code in Silchar which goes to bypolls on Saturday. Acting on a complaint of open cash distribution to voters on behalf of the Congress candidates, the returning officer lodged the complaint on Thursday. The authority has further served him a showcause notice. Two BJP leaders, Muktar Abbas and P.K. Das moved the Election Commission on Tuesday in New Delhi submitting a video clipping of Roy distributing cash among the voters.

Judicial panel for tea gardens

The Assam government has set up a Judicial Commission to study the working conditions in the tea gardens. Headed by a retired judge, the panel will study the implementation of the Plantation Labour Act in the tea gardens apart from suggesting measures to improve the working condition. The judicial panel would look into the housing, health, education and other facilities being provided by the tea gardens. The government has made it mandatory that a tea garden must have all the facilities under the Plantation Labour Act before it can be sold off.

Security forces are keeping close watch on Kamakhya temple in view of Jihadi plan to strike in some selected pockets of south east Asia which include Assam. NCHAC strike enters second day

M Thousan, HAFLONG: The indefinite strike of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council employees demanding payment entered second day on Thursday. But there seems to be no immediate solution in sight.Talking to reporters in Haflong, the agitating employees said that they won’t call off the stir unless they receive their salaries. J&K: Rescued people from Assam safe

As many as 85 people hailing from Assam had a narrow escape when they were rescued from the devastating flood waves in Jammu and Kashmir.These include the families of teachers at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Srinagar. According to information, over 200 people from are still trapped in the flood.These people are basically teachers, CRPF personnel, CISF jawans and civilians.
