Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore NDFB-S militant at an encounter in Udaguri district on Thursday. The encunter took place in the wee hours at Khoirabari area where the Bodo militant was attending a party. Acting on a tip off Udalguri police and army jawans launched an combing operation in the area were the encounter erupted. Identified as Bashiram Boro, the militant was critically injured in the 30 minute long gunfight. He was rushed to the hospital to be declared brought dead. The incident took place hours after local villagers at Ghiladhari in Sonitpur district lynched two NDFB-S militants when they arrived in the village to extort money.

Villagers in lage number came out to the street and tried to capture the duo. When they tried to escape from the spot the villagers overpowered them to be lynched on the spot. Policemen arrived in the spot and recovered the bodies. NDFB(S) militants have been unlashing terror in the entire area in the form of killing, kidnapping and extortion forcing the local residents to mercilessly deal with it.   
As many as 22 dissident MLAs called on senior AICC leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and Dr CP Joshi seperately in New Delhi on Wednesday where the recent Lok Sabha polls dominated the discussion. Hours after SEBA announced the results of the HSLC examination on Wednesday, education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed to have minimised anomalies and mistakes Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Dr Sarma said that the SEBA has already sent marksheets to the candidates along with the certificates for the successful candidates. He further said that fro 2016, the HSLC candidates would have 700 marks instead of the current 600 marks. According to him, from now onwards the Class IX candidates will have a combined paper of Assam history and geography.

Achyut Ranjan Gogoi of Nazira Jatiya Vidyalaya tops the HSLC examination conducted by SEBA in February this year. Gogoi, whose parents are teacher of a local school obtained 585 marks out of 600. The second position goes to Jyoti Krishna Kumar Kalita from Maloubari HS School in Sonapur in the outskirt of Guwahati. Achyut Ranjan Gogoi of Nazira Jatiya Vidyalay tops the HSLC examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam in February. SEBA has anounced the results of the HSLC Examiation at a press conference at the office premises on Wednesday. Altogether 39006 candidates secured frst division. Altogether  82793 candidates were placed in second dvision while 104886 have been placed in the third division. The percentage of successful candidates stands at 60 this year.  
In a major setback for UPLF, police have arrested the insurgent outfit’s comander-in chief in Karbi Anglong on Wednesday. Identified as Menam Phanglo, the dreaded boss of the United Peoples’ Liberation Front was arrested during an operation in the Khotkhoti area of the hills district in the wee hours. He was brought for Khotkhoti police station where interrogation is underway. Notably, the outfit has been unleashing a reign of terror in the entire district in the form of murder, kidapping and extortion.    
Surging rain waters threaten to submerge parts of the state on Wednesday. The Brahmaputra and its tributeries start overflowing following the incessent rains in the catchment areas during the last couple of days.    If these rains continue to lash the state the water levels of the mighty river would touch the danger level which would mean flood misery in the first wave.   
A hardcore rhino poacher was killed and four others managed to escape during an encounter with forest guards in Kaziranga on Tuesday. The encounter took place in the evening at Kanchanjuri area in Bagori sector of the national park. Forest guards recovered a rifle from the spot after the encounter. But operation continued for several hours in search of the poachers who managed to flee from the spot.
