Farewell to arms: 17 rebels surrender before Army
In yet another big blow for ULFA, one more top cadre of the dreaded 27 Battalion Captain Pradip Bora, along with sixteen rebels have surrendered before the Army to Friday with a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.
These cadres laid down arms at a function organized at Army’s Second Mountain Division Dinjan based camp. Of them, ten cadres from the No 27 Battalion, one cadres each from the No 27 Battalion and No 709 Battalion besides two each from NSCN and KNLF and another cadre from NDFB. They submitted before army three 3.62 pistol, seven 9.33 pistol, 2 pistols, one ML Burmese gun, one Chinese pistol, one .22 revolver, 20 rounds of live Ak-47 bullets.
In his address, Bora predicted that insurgents in Assam will die a hard death within a period of five years and that as of now problems have been crippling the banned insurgent outfit. He further said he was happy with the laying down of arms.
He said he enjoyed good relationship with NSCN and other insurgent outfits. Later talking to media people, the hardcore ULFA cadre deplored that the ULFA supreme has been never worried over the problems of the fellow cadres. “More cadres are coming out in a few days,” said Bora who was closed to Biju Phukan and Keshab Saikia.
The function was attended among others by Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner, superintendent of police General Officer commanding of the Second Mountain Division, Lt general Jatindra Singh, and several other top ranked army officers.
