Durga puja countdown begins

Assam on Monday joined the Mahalaya celebrations along with the rest of the country to mark the countdown to the Durga pujas. Rivers banks in many places were teeming with Durga devotees who started chanting mantra invoking the goddess. Hundreds of devotees in Guwahati poured into the streets early in the morning to attend the Mahalaya celebrations on the Brahmaputra river banks.
