Centre considers Upper House move
The Centre starts considering a two year old proposal of the Assam government for creation of upper House to accommodate the unrepresentative ethnic tribes 6 months ahead of the assembly polls.
According to reports, home minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Arun Jaitley, parliamentary affairs minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday n New Delhi discussed the proposal of the Assam government in 2013.
A clear cut decision is learnt to have eluded. But the ministers agreed to consider the proposal again as none of the political parties have opposed it. A Parliamentary Standing Committee in Assam had recommended that the central government should evolve a national policy for the creation of an Upper House in state legislatures.
