New states demanded in India

The National Federation for New States (NFNS) and Movement Groups from different parts of India demanded immediate amicable solutions to all pending demands for new states across the country and held good governance in India.

Addressing the reporters on Friday at Press Club of India ABSU president Promod Boro,Raja Bundella, president and Munish Tamang, general secretary of NFNS demanded re-organize states of India to ensure equitable political participation thereby ensuring protection and development of land, culture and identity of most marginalized ethnic communities in the country.

‘Bring about immediate amicable solutions to all pending demands for new states across India such as Bodoland, Bundelkhand, Gorkhaland, Kukiland, Twipraland, Karbi State, Dimaraji etc.,besides expedite the process of dialogue with different insurgent groups of North East Indian states to bring about lasting peace and political stability’,the federation leaders said.

The leaders said, “Ever since the independence of India by rightly exercising the constitutional power and authority given by Article 2 and 3 of Indian constitution several states have been created by Government of India. Very recently in the year 2000, NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee had created three states of Chattishgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. Following the footsteps of NDA, the UPA government led by Dr. Manmahan Singh also created the state of Telengana in 2014 carving Andhra Pradesh”.

While all the political formations have been rightly supportive of creating new states in India, the present NDA govt led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has in its poll manifesto promised for creating new states immediately after being elected to power. However, more than a year has elapsed ever since the NDA has formed the Government, no visible initiatives have been undertaken to fulfil its promise of creating new states to meet the hopes and aspiration of millions of underprivileged class of citizens.

It has sloganeered about many big programmes such as Make in India, Digital India, Swach Bharat Abhiyan, Saabke Sath Sabke Vikash but deliberately remained silent on re-organization of India, which is the most contentious issue since the Independence. This has left the movement groups in the nook and corners of the country such as All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Bundelkhand Mukti Morcha (BMM), Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC), Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS), Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP), Dimasa Peoples Council (DPC), Peoples Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB, P), with no choice, but once again hit the streets with renewed fervour and conviction to once and for all struggle for logical conclusion of long standing demands of new states across India such as Bodoland, Bundelkhand, Dimaraji, Gorkahaland, Kukiland, Karbi State, Twipraland, Vidarbha etc.

The federation leaders have announce a two day dharna cum rally on November 14 and 15 has been organized at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi to remind the NDA government to fulfill its promise made through the election manifesto with renewed vigour and fervor, the movement groups who have come under a single umbrella of National Federation for New States (NFNS) representing the quests of millions of people for creating new states in India endless democratic and peaceful protests, agitations, peoples satyagrah, mass rally etc have been carried out.

The demand is to seek justice and dignity for millions of people who have been left out of the developmental processes of the country along with creating safeguards for protection and development of land, culture and identity of smaller ethnic groups. They also said that the dharna cum rally is just the beginning of a vigorous mass democratic movement for creation of new states in India. If the demand is not met at the earliest, the political class of the country especially who are sitting at the helms of affairs will be responsible for the turmoil generated due to the massive mass democratic movement across the country.

The new states demand group has appealed to the government to take immediate appropriate steps to create new states wherever such demand exists. Or else remain prepared to face the stiff people’s movement to force the government to take decision in its favor for claiming legitimate rights of justice and dignity.
