Amid a fresh barrage of controversy over the performance of Hindi songs in the Bihu functions, the United Liberation Front of Asom (I) on Tuesday warned the state artists to refrain from for performing in Hindi to keep the age old Assamese culture alive.
In a statement issued to Assam Times, ULFA-I C-in-C Paresh Baruah said that they will not tolerate Hindi songs on the Bihu stage at least for the first seven days and that if any artist fails to stick to it it they won't be responsible for any unexpected incident.
Baruah, in his statement welcomed the guidelines prepared by a conglomerate of Bihu celebration committees in the state.
But the state evokes sharp reaction among a section of the artist. Talking to a TV channel Zubeen Garg said that ULFA diktat is not new for them. He said that he would not perform if these strictures are allowed.
