The 45th National Safety Week, observed at Nagaon Paper Mill (NPM), Kagajnagar on 4-11 March witnessed a series of activities including administering of safety pledges, wearing of safety badges by the employees, safety essay writing competitions, display of safety banner & posters with discussions over various industrial safety related issues.

The celebration kicked off with the hoisting of safety-day flag by Paban Kumar Bhuyan, chief executive/consultant (technical) of the NPM, a unit of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited on 4 March 2016. It was followed by the pledge taking ceremony administered in Hindi, Assamese and English by Ashok Kr Roy, acting general manager (works) in presence of employees representatives Ananda Bordoloi and Atul Mahanta.

The winners of various competitions were honoured by the high level NPM officials including GK Choudhury, inspector of factories, Nagaon. Karan Konwar, a contract worker for Das electrical working under the electrical department was appreciated for his recent brave works to protect human life in a critical situation.

The concluding meeting was addressed Rajesh Kr Jha, Dhiren Borah, Lalit Raj, Nilakshi Konwar, JN Gogoi with others where NPM safety manager Dwijen Thakuria welcomed the guests and explained the importance of the safety related observations in the industrial avenues.

This is good and in the same the the mill should and must make profit for it's survival. That is also more important that anything else.

Bill to boost waterway

The UPA government on Friday moved a bill in parliament to declare a 121-km stretch of Barak river in Assam as National Waterway. It will aim at unified development of waterways for shipping, navigation and transportation of cargo to the north-eastern region.The National Waterway (Lakhipur-Bhanga Stretch of the Barak River) Bill, 2013 was introduced by Shipping Minister G K Vasan and upon enactment would particularly benefit Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh by facilitating cargo movement there.

Gogoi meets Sonia in Delhi

Crippling dissidence in Congress finally reached party high command. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday morning at the latter’s 10th Janpath residence. Gogoi who is arriving back in Guwahati in the afternoon apprised the party president of the stepped up efforts by the dissident legislators to unseat him.Gandhi is believed to have asked Gogoi to continue. She is expected to pass an order to APCC to stop dissident activities.Gogoi on Wednesday said that the reasons for discontentment of the disgruntled members of the Congress would be looked into.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi meets Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon amid speculation of stepped up efforts to deal with dissidence in Assam Congress.   Accompanied by APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita, the chief minister met Gandhi at the AICC headquarters at 4-30 in the afternoon and the discussion lasted for nearly an hour. CBI nabs BRO official

A CBI team arrested a BRO official and seized Rs 15 lakh in cash from him in Guwahati on Wednesday.CBI picked up task Force Commandant Ram Milan was arrested from the Guwahati railway station. The money was actually a bribe paid by a private contractor.CBI received a tip off that Milan would be leaving for New Delhi from Guwahati. Crippling bandhs in Goalpara

 Normal life remained crippled in Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts when two separate bandhs rocked the districts which ended on Wednedsay evening.Bandh supporters unleashed violence leaving many people injured. 1 killed in Majuli mishap
