In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. Congress legislator Ardhendu Dey, who was allowed to sit in the place of Anjan Dutta on Wednesday said that he was a senior member and there was nothing wrong in the new arrangement. Talking to reporters outside the House on Wednesday after Anjan Dutta’s walk out, the former cabinet minister said that his seat in the second row was given on a written request of the Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Senior Congress legislator Anjan Dutta questioned the impartiality of Assembly Speaker when he walked out of the House in protest against the seat arrangement. Dutta, who felt insulted to be seated in the rearranged row alleged that the dissident legislators, irrespective of age and experience were allowed to sit in the front row. “I am in this Assembly since 1991. Sir, why suddenly my seat was rearranged? There are junior MLAs sitting in the front row. Those doing dissidence will be rewarded with a front row seat. AKRSU(B) is all set to intensify its demand for Kamatapur and Scheduled Tribe status. The Koch Rajbanshi student body would stage a sit-in demonstration at Dighalpukhuripaar in Guwahati on August 20. It would be followed by the black day on August 28. The Centre is hopeful. It wants an end to the three year long impasse over the NHPC-owned power project in Gerukamukh along the Assam-Aunachal Pradesh border. Addressing a function in New Delhi on Tuesday, Union power minister Piyush Goel said that he was hopeful to resolve the dispute between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam over the Lower Subansiri Hydro Power Project by next month. He said, “we are looking to resolve the dispute by next month after calling officials from Assam.” Developed by NHPC, cost of the project cost has gone up by about ₹1,200 crore due to forced suspension of work since December 2011. The company has already spent ₹6,600 crore.
Caught in a barrage of criticism for power cuts these days, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi asked his power minister Pradyut Bordoloi to improve the situation without any delay. During his meeting in Dispur on Tuesday, Gogoi underscored the need to improve the power scenario by completing the projects under various stages of progress. Now the decks are clear for e-commerce. The government has tabled legislation for taxing the online purchase and e-commerce goods in the state. It proposed to tap new revenue sources. This is apart from the proposal to bring online shopping under the tax net. An officer in the Indian Air Force has gone missing on his way to Guwahati. According to sources, the AIF officer who hails from Puducherry has been remaining untraced since July 19 when he boarded on a bus to Chennai en route to Guwahati.
