In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.

He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.

Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.

OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.

Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. These 15 include three Baruah and Anil Kumar Jain, Pramod Kumar Sharma, Rahul Dasgupta, Utpal Borah, PK Rao, Dr Ashutosh Karnataka, Saumendra Kumar Baruah, Dr Sunil Y Bharati and Bedanta Sarmah, Robin Deka, SB Buragohain.

In yet another bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, miscreants hacked to death a woman with her infant for defying rape attempt in Sonitpur district on Wednesday. Security forces arrested four NDFB(S) militants in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday. They were caught red handed at Hatibandha Gaon under police station on the way to a rubber estate for extorting money. Interrogation is going on.
NDFB-S militant held in Chirang Security forces on Wednesday apprehended a former BSF jawan who later joined NDFB(S) militant during a combing operation of police and CRPF at Panbari Bazar in Chirang district .  Security forces are fanning in Dima Hasao district in search of Niran Kumar Mahajan a day after a group of unidentified miscreants kidnapped the construction company manager on Tuesday. There is trace of the Simplex Infrastructure Ltd official during the last 24 hours. No militant outfit has so far owned up the responsibility after the top official was kidnapped at 73 Point area. Police officials told Assam Times that Mahajan had no security guards when he was travelling in the area.  Notably, the incident took place at 12-30 on Tuesday when the gunmen waylaid his vehicle and took him away at gunpoint.  Days of uneasy situations are back to Dima Hasao district. Unidentified miscreants kidnapped a construction project manager at gunpoint on Tuesday. Identified as Niron Kumar Mahajan , the top official of the Kolkata-based construction company was abducted near Hathikhuli under Langting police station in the morning. The construction company was engaged in widening of a four-lane project between Hatikhuli and Mandadisa. Security forces are on a combing operation to rescue the 48 year officer.
