In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.

But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is arriving in Guwahati on Monday a day after he met Congress president Sonia Gandhi. But he is not in a hurry to reshuffle his cabinet. Sources told Assam Times that the chief minister is likely to reshuffle his cabinet only after the budget session. Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday tore apart Tarun Gogoi alleging that the chief minister was hardly interested in the budget benefit. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Sonowal said that central funds are available for the state. But he alleged that the Congress government has not evinced keen interest to avail off the benefits. He said that of the total 'Rs 63,000 crore fund earmarked in the budget for 2014-15 for North East, Assam was supposed to claim a huge amount to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore. “But the Chief Minister has not motivated the officials to work day and night to ensure optimum utilisation of the funds for the maximum development of the state,”...
Dispur is all set to resume the NRC works which would help the state detect the immigrants. After formally accepting the modalities for updating the NRC prepared by the state government, the Centre has already released Rs.144 crore to the state for the project. Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami is expected to clear all the hurdles during his proposed visit the state next week. During his visit, Goswami is set to hold a few rounds of meetings with top civil and officials, political parties and organizations to take stock of updating the NRC.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his loyalists will try their best to manage the floor to avoid any embarrassment in the upcoming assembly session slated from August 4. There is marginal let up in the over all flood scenario. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have stated redecing during the last 24 hours. But over 50 villages in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts are still reeling under water in the second round of floods. Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat. Same it is in Beki which flowing over the danger mark at Barpeta town.
The overall flood situation in Majuli remains grim where over 25,000 people living in 65 villages have been reeling under the flash flood following heavy rain. The administration has shifted the marooned families to higher places. The Jorhat district administration has been deploying extra boats, medicines, tarpaulins, kerosene and salt ready to deal with the situation.
Normalcy is back in Baksa forcing the authorities to lift curfew clamped to avoid yet another string of group clash in the BTAD district. There is no report of any untoward incident during the last 24 hours from any part of the district after the Tuesday’s incident where unidentified gun men shot dead a student leader in the district.
