AJYCP sees hardly any reason to be assuaged by Sarbananda Sonowal’s promise to seal the porous Indo-Bangladesh border soon.
In a statement, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar on Sunday said that these promises are nothing new and that these only remain unimplemented.
Talukdar maintains, “Over the years, we have come across many such announcements from Delhi and Dispur. Is it an herculean task?”
The AJYCP leader blamed it all on both Delhi and Dispur for making it an unending process. A sealed Indo-Bangladesh border would not help them strike advantage of influx which both Congress and BJP want, said Talukdar.
According to him, “Is the Assam Government to be blamed for allowing the things to move at a snail’s pace? Why the Centre has not been active to complete the task? Both state and the Centre are to be blamed for lack of political will.“
Taking a dig at the NDA Government at the Centre Talukdar said, “If the NDA Government at the Centre is so keen to seal it, why it failed to make notable progress during the Vajpayee regime.”
Ending his two days Indo-Bangladesh border visit on Saturday, Sonowal issued a statement promising to complete the task at a stipulated period of time which he said would help trim the trans border crimes.
