Bogamati re-opened for picknickers
With the picnic season thriving and picnic spots thronged by picknickers across the state one of the famous picnic hotspot of Baksa district Bogamati is all set to welcome the picknickers. Biswajit Daimari Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament formally inagurated the picnic spot recently. The place is located in the Indo-Bhutan border area 30 km off Goreswar. It lies between the two ranges of hills at the foothills of the Bhutan border. The Bogamati hilly area belongs to the Baksa district.
Communication is easy through the Goreswar-Sukla-Uporkhuti (Bholajhar) PWD road and Nagrijuli-Ambarish Nagar PWD road in Baksa district. It is situated 5 km away from Ambarish Nagar bazar chowk. There are no settlers near Bogamati due to the large, thick forest with big trees/bushes growing close together and also the presence of various wild animals in the area. A natural gift of the Bogamati spot is the panoramic view of mountains and a wide area of land beside the river Barnadi, which originates from one of the Bhutan hills and flows through the two ridges of the hills. It divides into three tributaries, namely Mala, Deuchunga and Jabra (i.e Puthimari), the banks of which are covered with soft white sand. Besides, there are two irrigation channels namely Jabra (Deuchunga) and Puthimari. On the top of a hill a giant Buddha statue is also located . The Bogamati picnic committee members informed that already picknickers ate thronging the site. According to them, more than a thousand people visit Bogamati daily during picnic season. Water sports facilities like rafting on the Bornadi iver will be additional attraction to visitors.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.

TANGLA, May 20: In an unfortunate turn of event a 32 year old reputed businessman Roshan Patowary an inhabitant of Ward No. 4 of Tangla town in Udalguri district was electrocuted to death while fitting an inverter battery at his residence at about 8 pm on Tuesday night.
