Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan School at Dadara near Hajo is ready to get another facelift with the financial support from Guwahati Round Table 235, the Guwahati chapter of Round Table India (www.roundtableindia.org). The completed phase two section, comprising three classrooms, verandah & staircases with a total area of 2,750 square feet, will be inaugurated on 8 January next. Kamrup (rural) district magistrate Vinod Seshan has consented to inaugurate phase two part on Sunday in presence of district police chief PS Mahanta. “The foundation stone for development was laid on the 7 February 2016, where the project was planned to be completed in a phased manner with the first phase has already been completed. It was inaugurated by Assam education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma,” informed Parveen Goyal, chief of Guwahati Round Table 235.
Addressing the media persons on Wednesday, Goyal also added that they would soonstart the construction of phase three and expected to get it completed by the end of 2017. He described his mother organization as a non-religious and non-political entity. The Round Table India has over 4,500 chapters across the country comprising young businessmen, entrepreneurs, technocrats and other professionals. Mukesh Chokhani, secretary to the Guwahati chapter of Round Table India disclosed that they adopted the Dadara Shishu Niketan school under its flagship freedom through education project. He also added that they planned to develop around 10,500 sqft in the school premises with a total outlay of rupees 80 Lakhs.
Project conveners Avishek Kejriwal, Shwet Agarwal, Rahul Sethi with few others were also present on the occasion. The All Assam Students' Union will move the Supreme Court alleging Dispur’s move to include all electorates in the National Register of Citizens (NRC).AASU leaders told Assam Times that the apex Court was monitoring the entire process to update the NRC and that Delhi and Dispur can’t do anything without its seal of approval. “Let Tarun Gogoi write to the top court,” said AASU leaders.“We will move the court very soon against the move to update the NRC with illegal Bangladeshi migrants,” said the AASU leaders after the Chief Minister decided to write to the Centre about including in the updated NRC the names of all those who are registered in the latest (2014) voter list.

The government will take tough action against the alleged malpractice in the name of steps to update NRC. Chief minister disclosed it when he reviewed the progress of the ongoing process in Dispur on Tuesday. He directed all the Deputy Commissioners to look into the matter and take remedial measures. The Chief Minister also directed the officials to ensure that the names of all genuine Indian citizens are included and those of the foreigners are excluded from the NRC.
Dispur is writing to New Delhi seeking inclusion of those in the N RC whose names appeared in the electoral rolls of the country by virtue of them ‘being Indians’, in the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which is being updated. The decision was finalized at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday. The meeting discussed the names of the genuine citizens whose names figure in the electoral rolls. Gogoi also directed initiation of appropriate steps for deputing State government officials to every household for filling up the NRC forms.
Over 10 lakh pilgrims are likely to visit the kamakhya temple premises on the occasion of the ambubachi fair which is underway. Talking to Assam Times, organizers said over 5 lakh pilgrims are on the way. Some of them have already reached the city to be brought to the venue by transport, train and ferry. “ We have the medical and disaster management team with us to be deployed as occasion demands,” said organizers.
