More agri officers under scanner

An intensive probe into the multi crore agriculture department is likely to send more officers to the jail. Some stunning facts seemed to have surfaced during the ongoing investigation where five officers have been sent to jail on Friday.

All five officers were basically held in graft cases when they handled the implementation of three schemes meant for the farming community during the erstwhile Congress government.

A CID team called them to the Guwahati based office in the morning and started interrogation and then arrested. Immediately after the arrest, they were produced before a special court which sent them to the jail.

The court asked the CID team to ensure their production again on Monday. The investigation was ordered on the basis of some complaints police received from Assam Public Works a couple of years back. But the Tarun Gogoi government failed to proceed.
