Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS) has started a five day long workshop on 'Preparation of Sanchipaat manuscript and painting in Sankari style' at Batadrava Than from July 2 in association with Batadrava Than Management Committee. There will be practical lessons in preparation of Sanchipaat and use of Hengul-Haital to paint art on Sanchipaat. Mridu Moucham Bora, Secretary of SSS is the main resource person of this workshop. The Society has already organised three such workshops in previous years. It has been working to revive this dying art form. Its effort has been recognised in national and international level.
Devananda Deva Goswami, Sattradhikar of Narowa Sattra inaugurated the workshop by lighting ceremonial lamp. He praised the works done by the Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva to spread the Sankari art form and other cultural resources.
Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti, the President of SSS conducted the inaugural session. He elaborated the effort made by SSS to make the contributions of the saint known outside Assam. He dwelt on the history and features of Sankari art and also how it influenced other art forms in India.
Brajen Kakati, Secretary of Batadrava Than Management Committee attended the inaugural session as chief guest. He highlighted the status of Batadrava Than in Sankaradeva legacy and promised to work hard to bring glory to the Than. He hoped that SSS would lend its expertise to the Than in the projects to be undertaken with support from the state government.
The participants of the workshop hail from different parts of Assam like Barpeta, Golaghat, Sibsagar etc. An exhibition of Sanchipaat Art will be held on the concluding day,July 6.
