JFA appreciates Hills Times management
Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) welcomes the decision of the management of The Hills Times (www.thehillstimes.in) to implement the Majithia Wage Board Award for its employees. The English daily, published from Diphu (printed in Guwahati), becomes the third media group in northeast India to take the initiative to enhance the salary & other benefits for their employees under the wage board.
The Assam Tribune group had already implemented the wage board and the management of Niyamiya Barta has lately declared to implement the prescribed wage board for the benefit of its employees including journalists.
The Supreme Court of India on June 19 redirected the owners of newspaper & news agencies to pay their employees according to the wages as revised/determined by the Majithia board since November 11, 2011 without differentiating between the permanent (full-time) and contractual employees in their establishments.
“We urge all media houses in the region to implement the wage board without delay. The managements must not linger on its implementation for more years. Otherwise, it would only degrade the print media as an institution slowly slipping down to the group of law-evaders in the country,” said a JFA statement endorsed by president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.

GUWAHATI: Asst Manager of SBI Dadara Branch Junu Sarma was shot dead from point blank range by two armed motor cycle borne miscreants at Agiathori under Amingaon PS in Kamrup on Tuesday evening. When the her car slowed down at Agiathori area, two man on a motorbike wearing helmets broke the window pane of the car and shot her from close range,police said.Her driver rushed her to NH Narayana hospital and later referred to GMCH where she was declared brought dead.The driver has been detained for questioning, police said adding that the cause of the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Guwahati: Lone protester in the streets of Guwahati against all evils and an acclaimed musician Kishor Giri passes away this morning (7 October 2018). Giri, who lived in Kharghuli hill of the city with his family, was found dead at around 9.30 am. His daughters, who live in Bangalore, are arriving in the city by the evening. His cremation will take place tomorrow.
