Dalai Lama embarks on his maiden visit to Manipur

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama embarked on his maiden visit to Manipur on Tuesday. 

The Dalai Lama was accorded a warm welcome by the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand Singh at the Imphal International Airport. 

Upon his arrival in the capital city on a two-day visit to the state, he went straight to Raj Bhavan here to meet Governor Dr Najma Heptulla. The state government has declared him a state guest.

The Manipur government will organize a grand reception ceremony in honour of the Dalai Lama tomorrow at City Convention Centre, Imphal located at Palace Compound, officials informed. His Manipur trip comes on the invitation of Speaker Y Khemchand Singh.  

He will address the media in the morning and later speak at a public gathering where several prominent persons will also be present at the City Convention Centre.

Officials said the Dalai Lama will leave the state just after 12 noon on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been put in place in Imphal town in view of the visit by Dalai Lama.

SENAPATI, Mar 23 (NENA): Tripartite talks involving the Centre, Manipur government and United Naga Council (UNC) to end the deadlock over creation of new districts remained “inconclusive.”  On Friday, talks were held at the DRDA conference hall, Senapati district headquarters from 11:25 till 2 pm.  It was agreed in the meeting to hold the next round of talks on April 27 next.
