Guwahati GST meet slashes 10% rate in 177 items

The country wide escalating protest has forced the Centre give a second thought to consider goods service tax on some selected items.

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley presided a brainstorming session of the GST council comprising state finance ministers in Guwahati on Friday where 177 items out of 277 would have 10% slashed rate.

The 28% slab goods would have now 18% goods service tax giving some sort of relief to the common people.

The council held initial session in Guwahati on Thursday where many Congress leaders including former chief minister Tarun Gogoi, state Congress president Ripun Bora courted arrest as they staged dharna in front of the session venue. Later they were released.
