AGP-BJP difference widens further
GUWAHATI:The difference between AGP and BJP widens further as the regional party on Tuesday threatened to pull out if the BJP-led coalition government on the question of the controversial citizenship amendment bill.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, party leader and former chief minister said they would snap the alliance with the saffron party if the Citizenship Amendment Bill is given a passage in Parliament.
Mahanta said,"we are stick to the Assam Accord. Those who came to the state after the cut off date must go irrespective of Hindu or Muslim. Bangladeshis are Bangladeshis. There is no question of any consideration."
"Only the BJP government at the Centre wants the Hindu immigrants to stay back where Assam will have to bear the extra burden. We don't endorse it," said the two time chief minister who was one of the signatories of the Assam Accord.
