Total shutdown disrupts NH-2

A 12-hour total shutdown on Imphal-Dimapur road, NH-2 enforced by Naga civil society groups disrupted normal life on Monday.

The shutdown call from 6 am to 6 pm was imposed demanding the government to arrest a man who is wanted in an attempted rape and murder of a minor girl that happened on August 1 last.

Hundreds of people in Kanglatongbi area along the highway took a protest rally under the banner of Namdilong Women Development Society, Liangmau Pui Naga Ruangdi and All Liangmai Naga Students’ Union.

The accused, Asin alias Kashin alias Karinba,50, hailing from Karvangmuang village, part II, Noney is still at large since the incident which has prompted several social organisations of Senapati to stage a series of protests demanding his arrest.

The Manipur police have already announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information and details leading to the arrest of the culprit involved in the crime committed against the Class 9 student who was seriously injured in the incident.
