Kokrajhar: A section of angry residents in Kokrajhar thrashed a ration dealer accusing him of resorting to unfair deal with the beneficiaries. The incident took place on Friday where a group of beneficiaries from Ghoskata village caught the dealer Budu Brahma alias Sahen Basumatary and charged him of deliberately doing anomalies in the distribution of rations through cooperative societies where the real beneficiaries were reprieved.
According to the beneficiaries, most of them out of nearly 320 APL and BPL card holders have not been receiving due quantity of rice, sugar and kerosene. But as per the government guidelines, a BPL family should get 33-35 kgs of rice per month. But the dealer has been distributing these card holders only 28 kgs of rice. As per AAY scheme, a beneficiary should get 5kgs of rice at a rate of of Rs 3 per kg, but getting only 4 kgs and taking Rs 5 per kg.
The angry beneficiaries then convened a meeting and invited the dealer to discuss these anomalies. When he tried to defend the anomalies, he was publicly beaten up. The beneficiaries further demanded early cancellation of his trade license.
