Amid an aroused brouhaha, the Assam asset of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation based at Nazira in Sivasagar district has claimed a slew of achievement in the field of operation and also to percolate its benefits for the people in general.
In a recent media workshop organized at Nazira, the oil and gas major said the Assam asset has initiated exploration in deeper geological formations like Tura – in Lakwa, Geleky, Nazira 7 Mekeypore areas along with accelerated development of new oil fields like Laipling goan, Changmai goan. More than 200 wells are planned in next five years consisting of (a) horizontal/multi-leteral/high-angle wells (b) sidetrack wells (c) ultra short radias drain holes, said ONGC.
The ONGC further has claimed cumulative investment of Rs 10,432 crore in the state and cumulative contribution of exchequer (state/centre) has been Rs 9,741 crore till financial year 2007-08.
It has recruited locally 384 employees both regular and tenure based in last six years to men the increased operational requirement in Assam. Very recently, it has entered in to a pact with the Assam government to raise a battalion of 1148 security personal by Assam police on behalf of the oil major. Notably, ONGC struck oil in Assam on December 7, in1960 at Rudrasagar -1 and within 3 years. It was the third success after its maiden discovery of oil at Lunej, Cambay basin on September 5, 1958 followed by a major discovery at Ankleswar in Gujrat, in early 1960.
Since then ONGC has made 17 major discoveries in Assam and drilled about 1225 wells. The Assam asset is the largest on – shore asset of ONGC. Currently, it operates in 65 production installations, 20drilling rigs and 14 work over rigs. In addition, there is a network of 230 kms of trunk pipelines and 2000 kms of flow lines.
The Assam asset produced 1.186 mmt of crude oil and 409 mmscm gas during financial year 2007-2008 and currently, the growth strategy of Assam asset is focused on (a0 find reserves (b) increase production (c) renewal of infrastructure and facilities.
