Awareness programme held

On Thursday at Ledo Tea Estate under Tinsukia district an awareness program on NALSA scheme has been organized by District legal Service Authority, Tinsukia. Papu Sah President of Children friends club moderated the whole program and prominent persons including Nayan Jyoti Dutta Secretary of District legal service Authority, Tinsukia, Debojit Bose Advocate from Tinsukia, Jyotish Phukan incharge of Ledo police outpost, Jiten Deka factory manager of Ledo Tea Estate, Ram Prasad Ambedkar veteran journalists and Advisor of Margherita Journalists Association, Mitali Roy principal of Roots 2 Fruits pre school Ledo, CP Gautam Noted Social worker of Ledo, Mithun Baruah treasurer of Margherita Journalist Association and all tea workers of Ledo Tea Estate were present.

 Nayan Jyoti Dutta said that now a days crime has increased at Tea Garden and rural areas of Assam which many people are not aware of the functions of the District Legal Service Authority. Many a time due to lack of proper knowledge people mainly from Tea Garden and rural areas are deprived of justice which many cases of child trafficking, child abuse and sexual exploitation victims fall prey to. India is a Democratic country where all people irrespective of caste, creed, race, language and religion enjoy equal rights. We appeal mainly to Tea Garden people not to fear and the District Legal Services Authority is always ready to serve people voluntarily.

Roots 2 Fruits Pre-School Principal Mitali Roy said children are safe under mothers as mothers can understand their children's feelings better than others. Tea garden workers of Ledo must take care of their children so they don't become victims of human trafficking and other crimes. Papu Sah demanded a Legal Services Authority centre be opened at Margherita.

The Margherita unit of BJP has suspended its president Bhim Karmakar for 5 days in connection with the recent acrimonious situation at a party function in Tinsukia.Party insiders told Assam Times that Karmakar was allegedly involved in the scuffle that took place at the function attended by Siddhartha Bhattacharya where the party workers tried to be flanked by the State president on November 16.
Normal life remains paralyzed on Friday in Tinsukia district following a 24 hour bandh called by the Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad in protest against the assault on one of their leader.Roads in most parts of the district remained completely deserted as vehicles refused to ply during this period. Shops and markets, schools and colleagues, banks and offices remained closed under impact of the bandh.CRPF jawans on Thursday assaulted Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad’s Digboi branch president Prashanta Buragohain at Digboi bereft of any reason.
