Tough time for Biren Singh in Manipur

An undying orgy of violence in Manipur puts Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a tough time to continue his second consecutive term. 

Highly placed sources have said the escalating tension in the BJP-ruled north eastern state is forcing the party leadership to consider a change in the state government leadership as an urgent measure to help the state bail out of the crisis that has left 53000 people homeless so far.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a four-day visit to the restive state, is learnt to have been considering all  possible aspects to quell the situation. 

"All options are open to help the state restore normalcy. Let the Union Home Minister review the situation," said a top ranking officer who refused to be named here.

Top guns of army, police and para military forces are constantly monitoring the situation from the plains up to the hills where around 90 people lost their lives.

The Union Minister took briefings from the heavy weights and asked them to deal with the situation. 

Security forces are fanning in search of trouble mongers in the plains and atop hills alike. 

Panic stricken displaced people in Churachandpur claimed to have heard the sounds of gunshots  even after the arrival of the Union Home Minister.

People atop the hills have categorically slammed Chief Minister N Biren Singh for openly claiming to have killed 30 "kuki" militants during the counter insurgency operation by the security forces. " This is his mind set whis no less mean," said a local resident in Tamenglong district. 

Meanwhile in Delhi, sources say, the party leadership is actively considering the change of Chief Minister provided it helps the state restore peace. The sources, however, refused to divulge these details.

9 Assam Workers Killed in Ennore Power Plant Mishap
