Guwahati: Sculptor Sankar Kalita from Paikana Village Missing for Over a Month After Traveling to Mumbai
Renowned sculptor Sankar Kalita from Paikana village near Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district, who had established himself in Guwahati, has been missing for over a month and a half, causing concern in the area. Kalita, who moved to Guwahati around 30 years ago to pursue sculpting, has been involved in creating numerous sculptures across Guwahati and various parts of Assam. Recently, he had set up his own sculpting studio in Vetapara, Guwahati. However, in a mysterious turn of events, he traveled to Mumbai in late December for business-related work and has not returned since.
According to family members, Kalita had planned to return home during Magh Bihu but later informed them that he would stay in Mumbai for a couple more days due to unfinished work. He assured them that he would board a train back to Assam on February 1. During this period, he maintained daily contact with his family via his phone number, 8876016446. However, on February 1, when his elder brother, Bhupen Kalita, tried to confirm whether he had boarded the train, the phone was switched off. It has remained off since then.
The family has filed a complaint at the Basistha Police Station in Vetapara, where Kalita’s studio is located. However, they allege that the police have been unresponsive, citing difficulties in tracing a missing person from another state. The family is now appealing to the police administration and the government to take immediate action to locate the missing sculptor. They have also urged anyone with information about Kalita, who is 4.7 feet tall, has a beard, and is of fair complexion, to contact them at 9954680886.
The disappearance of Sankar Kalita has left the community in shock, and his family is desperately seeking answers and assistance to bring him home safely.
