Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. Terang is a litterateur whose epoch Rong Milir Hanhi sent him into the acme of glory. Contemporary social life in the state is very much there in his literary works . Jak Heruwa Pakhi is all about the ethnic frenzy between Karbis and the Kukis. The Assam agitation is what dominates his Krantikalor Oshru….During that time, he was attracted by the prose works of Hem Barooah’s Hagor Dekhisa not to speak of Banikanta Kakoti’s Sahitya Aaru Prem. Besides, he wrote a lot for Karbi language and literature. Mention may be made of Karbi Lamkuru, Karbi Kala Aaditag. Besides, some of his notable works in Assamese literature are Rong Milir Hanhi, Karbi Sahitya-Sanskritit Abhumuki, Nila Orchid, Smritir Papori and what not. It was Terang who for the first time used the word Karbi Anglong in his lyric.

Rongbong Terang is a great writer and a well-known personality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam. His work is really appreciable and unique. Assam Sahitya Sabha will go a long way under his presidentship. We wish him all the good luck and prayers for future.

Asam Sahity Sabha since its inception selecting the person as its President who hiself is an institution. This time Rongbong Terang has been selected to Chair the glorious organisation of the people of Assam. Hope, he will be able to lead the present complex situation for better cause of Assam and the North East with selfless design.

The All Assam Students' Union leaders are staging a sit-in-satyagraha from Saturday alleging non implementation of the Assam Accord even it was signed 25 years back. The central committee leaders of the student body have begun the satyagraha from 6 in the morning beside Dighalipukhuri. They would wind up it only after unfurling the tricolour at the Latashil playground. Notably, the trilateral pact was reached after an end to the 6 year long struggle 25 years back demanding primarily detecting and deportation of the Bangladeshi immigrants.

The All Assam Students Union has blasted political clique in Assam for not getting the Assam Accord inplemented in toto. This has forced the students body to release a white paper on the implementation of the Accord 25 years later on Friday. The organisation leaders are all set to

Panic grips in Sivasagar town following the recovery of a powerful bomb on Friday evening. The bomb was recovered from the ASTC Bus Stand which was kept inside an unclaimed bag. Later it was defused by police and army.
Altogether five people, including three of a family, were killed when lightning struck them in a field in in Goalpara district Friday. According to information, the incident took place in the afternoon at Dudhnoi where all the victims were working in a paddy field. Three of them were from a family - a father and two minor sons.

A three-day camp on free and open source software called “FOSSilize” is going to be held at IIT Guwahati campus on September 3-5. The goal of the event is to increase the awareness, integration and adoption of free and open source software (FOSS) tools among the students. The emphasis is on building the capacity of the students to use FOSS. The event will bring together students from both the technical and non-technical colleges in the region. The aim is to use this event - and subsequent activities - as an opportunity to broaden expertise, forge new ideas and connections, and encourage the creative use of FOSS within the different projects and initiatives in the region...
