Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro is facing political heat after opposition parties alleged that he failed to disclose multiple land holdings in the name of his wife and family in his nomination affidavit.
According to complaints raised by the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and Raijor Dal, Boro’s wife, Parul Boro (also recorded as Parul Bharali), owns at least nine parcels of land in Rangia, Kamrup district. Opposition leaders claim that many of these properties were purchased after Boro became the BTR’s executive head, but details were not reflected in his election affidavit.
The issue came to light after a regional news agency and political parties highlighted discrepancies between the affidavit and land records. BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission, demanding cancellation of Boro’s nomination. He also announced plans to move complaints in Kokrajhar and Tamulpur.
In Guwahati, Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi held a press conference accusing Boro of deliberately concealing assets. The party has also submitted a petition to the State Election Commission seeking disqualification.
Following these complaints, the Assam State Election Commission has reportedly instructed the Tamulpur district administration and election officials to conduct an inquiry. Official confirmation of the investigation, however, is awaited from the Commission.
Under election rules, candidates must declare all movable and immovable assets in the name of self, spouse, and dependents. Concealment of property information can attract legal consequences, including rejection of a nomination.
While the opposition has mounted pressure, Boro has not issued a formal response to the allegations as of now. The controversy has stirred political turbulence in the BTR ahead of the polls.
This is a developing story. Independent verification of land records and the Election Commission’s response is awaited.
