Celebration of Birthday of an Assamese poet in Kolkata


Well known literary personalities and writers of Kolkata and members of Assamese community based in kolkata accorded a reception to Assamese well known writer , poet and economist Gautam Prasad Barua on his reaching 70th years today for his contribution to Assamese literature and personal finance to middle class population of Northeast.. The function was organized by Heritage Northeast along with ASL CLUB Kolkata and was largely attended Bengal's literary icons like Kazi Nazrul award winner poet Ardhendu Chakravarty, FILM ARTIST Kalyan chatterjee writer and translator Jiban Bose, Manipuri dance exponent Devajani Chaliha Basu, Himanshu Bose journalist and writer Ranjita Biswas beside others.


In the meeting a CD of Barua’s poems was lanched recited by wellkown recitors like Dr. Manjumala Rajkhowa, Nakib Ahmed, Robin Barthakur, Ishan Barua, Anuradha Sharma Pujari and few others.


In another function Sristir Ramdehnu , a Socio Cultureal Organisation of Assamese youth of Kolkata also felicitated Barua a day earlier, at the auditorium of Bharatiya Bhasa Parishad, for his contribution to the cause of literature and for educating people of Assam the modern way of saving and investment through his regular column in News paper of Assam. The Sistir Ramedhnu was orgnising a function to celebrate the occasion of Bohagi Bidai( farewell to Bohag) on that occasion.


Ardhndu Chakravarthy, while releasing the CD of “Edin Kabitare Hobo Bishphoron” said that poetry of Barua is known not only in Assam but also in Bengal.His translated work of poetry in Bengali Language “Hridoy Suashe Porobash” was one of the best seller in Kolkata, he added The shuttle uses of metaphor in his poems carries special effect and meaning to the words. His rhythmic style of writing make the poems great favorite of recitors.


Promode Saikia, wellknown News caster presently the Chairman of the Heritage North E stated that contribution made by Barua to our society is diverse and immense. His contribution needed to be acknowledged. We released a CD of his poetry along with few other CDs including “Asomor Sudodi Maat.” famous melodious Songs of Assam and poems of Harekrishna Deka entitiled “Somudra Bhiti”. I hope these would be reecived well in the cultural capital of India.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh put in his papers before the President on Saturday.
