Haflong girl makes Dima Hasao proud
Despite all odds, Ms Narmita Dutta, student of St. Agnes Convent High School, daughter of Sri Nepal Ranjan Dutta and Nilima Dutta,Haflong makes the district of Dima Hasao proud, securing highest marks in English in the entire State of Assam in the just declared result of High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2011.
She also secured letter marks in six subjects like English, General Science, General Maths, Social Studies, Advanced Maths and in Hindi.
Talking to the media persons Narmita said she was very happy and wanted give all the credits to her parents and teachers for her success. She wants to peruse her studies in engineering.

Longchiui, a village only 3 Km away from the Umrangso, the only industrial township of Dima Hasao is yet to see the light of development. The village was established by the affected people of Kopili Hydro Electric Project as their ancestral village Sikilangso was taken by the NEEPCO way back in 1976. They were of course compensated but with a meager amount and with some long promises of development and other facilities.

Acting on a tip off, Haflong police nabbed two cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) from Mahur, 35 KM from Haflong on Monday. Following repeated interrogation of these cadres one AK Riffle, two magazine and 58 rounds of ammunition were recovered from one Lunjahao Lienthang of Numjang village under Mahur police station. Both the cadres identified as Thancha Khingsai, 27 of Changpijang under Mahur PS and Lansen Kuki, 25 of Mulkon under Maibang police station were brought to Haflong Police station for further interrogation.
