Umrangso NEC Division in bad shape

People of Umrangso in Dima Hasao expressed great dissatisfaction over the non-functioning of PWD NEC Division for years together.

The office of PWD NEC Division, Umrangso, was reportedly not functioning for a long time for the reasons best known to the authority concern. But with utter surprise, tender and works order for the repair works etc. to the tune of crores were being done from some undisclosed places in Guwahati, people alleged. Practically no works are being executed through this office though it was supposed to. The deplorable condition tells the true story of this office.

Mention to be made here that the means of communication for the people of Umrangso was only roads, as Umrangso is connected to Haflong , Lanka and Meghalaya by roads only. Therefore people of Umrangso were solely dependent on road communication.

People also alleged that the Executive Engineer who rarely visits Umrangso, executing all the works in paper only in connivance with a few Guwahati based contractors. The local people of Umrangso are totally in dark about the tender for the works and execution of works.

People argue what for the Government had established this office and why the Government had been incurring a huge amount of fund in the name of roads repair or construction through office? Why the people of Umrangso are being kept in dark about the functioning of this office. During a visit to this office by this correspondent a 4th grade employee who was about to his residence on plea of stomach pain disclosed that the Executive Engineer some time visits the office and most of staffs being field staffs are working in their respective residences. One Jaibesh Warisa, Social Worker of Umrangso alleged that crores of rupees are being incurred by the government for the development of the road communication but no work is being done in practical, therefore the government is requested to take necessary action against the misappropriation of development fund meant for the poor people of the district.
