KMSS vows to prevent the prospect of big dams at any cost
RTI activist Akhil Gogoi says they will at any cost prevent the prospect of big dams that would spell ecological disaster in Assam. Addressing a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club on Sunday Gogoi accused chief minister Tarun Gogoi of resorting to blatant lies to safeguard the interest of the NHPC. “The Chief Minister has hardly any point of supporting the big dams. The experts have already rejected these dams citing the north east a highly a seismic zone,” said Gogoi.
Gogoi said the KMSS, AASU, TMPK, AJYCP must join the massive protest against the big dams and the ships carrying big dams turbines on the Brahmaputra riverways must be stopped from proceeding beyond Dhubri.
Gogoi’s stiff resistance assumes significance a day after Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi pledged all out support to the NHPC and big dams citing it a question of Assam’s economic development.
