The silver jubilee celebration of Kalaigaon College concluded on October 30. A grand cultural procession,inaugurated by Mitha Ram Basumatari,EM,BTC marked the beginning of the concluding session at 11 AM. The 3 KM long cultural procession,passing through Kalaigaon town could very much draw the attention of people. Nearly five thousand people mostly woman, children and students took part in the procession. 51 ethnic cultural groups with colorful traditional costume (namely-Bodo,Rabha,Koch-Rajbongshi, Garo, Bihu, Sankari culture, Adivasi, Sarania Kachari,Nath-Yogi,Ojapali,Deodhani,Dhepa Dhulia, Khulia Bhaoria,Thia Naam etc) added special fervor to the celebration.
Dr Nagendra Nath Sarma,former Principal of Kalaigaon College inaugurated the open session at 1 PM.Maheswar Boro,President College GB and Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Celebration Committee presided over the session.Arabinda Das, Principal Kalaigaon College welcomed all the distinguished guests with gamocha and college memento. Derhasat Basumatari,EM (Education),BTC as the distinguished guest spoke on the presentday educational problems of the state with special reference to secondary education. He declared that BTC authority would take up a few steps for better education in BTAD districts. He requested MP,MLA,EM and MCLAs not to interfere with academic activities including matters like transfer and stay of the teachers.
Attending as another distinguished guest,Sankar Prasad Roy,President,AASU also spoke on the new role of AASU in the matter of academic reformation in the state.He said that AASU had been neutral in academic matters during previous decades. But they would keep strict vigil on such important matters.Ramen Deka, MP also attended the session as the special guest.Utpal Chakravorty, President,All Assam Junior College Teacher's Association;Dipen Konwar,journalist and advisor AJYCP;Jagadish Sarkar ,Dandi Ram Rabha and Sunil Dutta,all BTC MCLAs; Bandana Goswami,Principal,Mangaldai College;Madhab Sarma, Principal,JNV, Darrang; Himani Devi Chakravorty also attended the closing ceremony. Noted singer Jiten Deka inaugurated the grand cultural night in the evening.
