Train blockade in Namrup

Dibrugarh District AASU blocked (Rajdhani Express) at Namrup railway station on Friday 8.30 pm to 9.45pm demanding for upgradation of Namrup Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation 2nd and 3rd plant and set up a 4th plant.

without bvfcl 4th plant Namrup will be a deadcity.

Namrup labour Union to stage dhana at Jantar-Mantar on December 10

Namrup B.V.F.C.L. Sramik Union and several leaders of other organizations are planning to stage a mass rally at Jantar-Mantar Delhi on December 10 demanding setting up of a fourth plant at Namrup. General secretary of the union T. Bora said that they would meet Central Fertilizer Minister MK Azagiri and discuss on the issue of setting up of a forth plant. They will also submit the memorandum to the Prime Minister.

National Seminar at Namrup College

A UGC sponsored seminar on "Recent Trends in Traditional Physiotherapy; Safety, Efficacy, Drug Discovery and Priority Issues" was held on December 2-3 at Department of Botany, Namrup College. The seminar was organised to promote coordinated efforts for evaluation of traditional medicine in an effective manner. NEIST scientist Dr. Manab Jyoti Bordoloi, Dr. LR Saikia, head of the Dept of Life Science, Dibrugarh University; Dr. B.P. Sarma Associate Proff. Guwahati Ayuvedic Hospital, Dr. D.K. Boruah and S. Dutta Chairman ABITA Naharkatia circle etc. took part in the event.

Baba Ramdev's visit to Namrup

Baba Ramdev of Patanjali fame will address a massive gathering of admires and yoga practitioners at Namrup on Feb 21 next as a part of countrywide BHARAT SWAVIMAN SAJAGATA Campaign. This was finalised at Namrup Patanjali Yoga Committee meeting held recently. A reception committee was fromed for the event with Dr. Tapan Sharma as president and Binu Bhagawati as secretary.

Fire in Namrup

A fire broke out in the early morning of Thursday at Namrup town which destroyed result properties worth 40 lakh approximately. Residence of Atul Saha including his shop was destroyed. The fire also destroyed part of UCO Bank.

14 years old boy dies due to gutkha consumption

Umesh Roy (14), son of Sivsaran Roy, was found dead on September 20 at Namrup. The reason of the death was believed to be regular consumption of gutkha (sikhar). According to his parents, he goes to school as well as works in a shop to support the family. Sometimes he suffered stomach pain and on September 20 he was vomiting and died on the way to hospital. According to local people who are close to Umesh, he use to consume an average of 20 packets of sikhar daily. The post mortem report said stomach ulcer and bleeding.

New album Ranga Prabhate Gaan released

"Ranga Prabhate Gaan" - a collection of Assamese progressive songs is released at Dibrugarh Chauolkhowa Music College recently. Producer and director Dr. Mohesh Deka of MD films and Music says "the songs are composed mainly on progressive ideas based on unity, peace and harmony in the present day society".
