Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Flood woes in Goalpara

Flash flood have started wreaking havoc in Goalpara district displacing thousands of people during the last couple of days. The major rivers in the district have been overflowing following the heavy downpour in Meghalaya and the surging waters have inundated a huge area in the lower Assam district where thousands of people in several villages have been affected. AASU plans massive stir

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is all set to hit the streets again if the Centre fails to scrap the move for Indian citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. The state’s influential student organization, in a statement made it plain and simple that never it would allow the immigrants who came to Assam after March 24, 1971 to remain in the state. AASU has threatened to launch a statewide massive movement to detect and deport the immigrants in question.    According to AASU, the Centre’s move is quite contrary to the Assam Accord which is not acceptable under any circumstance.

Diphu's riock band 'Celestial Sphere' hits the headline with their latest single ‘How I Wish’. The song is curently on air in the international television channel Vh1. Directed by Lorence Kachari the English music video was released this week which features Miss Asia Rewati Chetri. The five-member band 'Celestial Sphere' includes Dr. Aleena Terangpi (Vocal), Lumar (Guitar), Thengchum (Guitar), Edwardo (Bass) and Ben (Drums).

Oil field auction: Police thrash KMSS protesters

Many people sustained injury when security forces sprang upon a group of KMSS activists in Guwahati who opposed the process to auction a dozen of oil fields in Assam on Saturday. The incident took place in front of the Hotel Redision Blue in the outskirt of the city where petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan was meeting the interested bidders in the morning. Led by Akhil Gogoi hundreds of KMSS activists blocked the road leading the five star hotel to prevent the movement of the bidders who were on the way to the meeting. Sea of humanity atop Neelachal

The Neelachal hill top in the outskirt of Guwahati city breaks into a sea of humanity when over 5 people from the country and abroad thronged the Kamakhya temple premises to catch a glimpse of the ancient shrine. Rare exhibition of different art forms organized in the city

Senior painter Benu Misra and artisan-photographer Labu Senapati have joined in a mission to showcase their works once again in the city.
