Kampur ready to host Dimasa conference
Preparations are in full swing to hold the two day Dimasa conference under the auspices of Kampur Kacharipar Dimasa Sangathanik Samiti starting from January 17 with a number of programmes.
The conference will be attended by Dimasa Kacharis living in the hills and plains of Assam, including the Dimasas of North Cachar Hills,supposed to be the hub of Dimasa Kacharis.
It is worth mentioning that the conference bears special significance in the wake of the Koch Rajbongshis demanding for schedule tribe status in as much as the Koch Rajbongshis living in the plains of Assam claim themselves to be the direct descendants of the Dimasas living in the North Cachar Hills of Assam. The venue of the conference is named after Tula Ram Senapati , supposed to be the last of the Kachari rulers.
It is learned that a number of prominent personalities and political stalwarts are going to attend the conference.

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. According to police, the arrested Pranjal Deka had nexus with Tiwa insurgency group Tiwa Liberation Army ( TLA ) and came to Raha on an extortion drive at the instance of their leader Bidyut Amseng.
Former Congress minister and MLA of Batadrava constituency Goutam Bora’s Inova vehicle ( AS01 AK-1597 ) met with an accident on Sunday noon at Dighaliati area at Raha. A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach of the victim,Paree Saikia. Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.
