Journalists Union of Assam condemns arrest of Tezpur scribe

Journalists Union of Assam(JUA), an affiliate state body of Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expresses deep concern at the police atrocities on Bhupen Nath , Tezpur correspondent of Niyamiya Barta, a daily published from Guwahati. He was arrested in the night of October 12 , 2013  in front of his wife and minor son on the plea of a minor accident. Nath was mercilessly beaten up  by the police. Later on the police handcuffed him and sent him to the hospital. He is booked under some tough sections of law and sent to the jail.

Journalists Union of Assam supports local journalists who staged out a protest rally in the Tezpur Town on October 15. JUA demand that the cases against Mr. Nath be withdrawn and he should be immediately released.  JUA urged that the police should stop its atrocious role on common people. Condemning the highhandedness of the police JUA asked the government and the administration to streamline the police force so that they respect the right of the civilians and freedom of media.
