Prominenet regional parties in the north east will fight the Lok Sabha poll under the same unbrella. Float as the North East Regional Political Front, the regional parties are set to mount pressure on Centre to solve the common and vital issues of the region. Led by AGP, 11 parties on Monday held a workers’ convention at Machkhowa where hundreds of regional party workers vowed to keep Congress and BJP at bay. These include AGP, Nagaland People's Front (NPF), MizoNational Front (MNF), Sikkim Democratic Front, Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) and several other parties from Meghalaya,Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. The front has also left its doors open for other regional forces.
The idea took the shape at recent meeting in New Delhi between Prafulla Mahanta and TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu.
Former Assam chief minister and AGP chief Mahanta will be the chief adviser of the front, with Sikkim chief minister Paban Chamling and former Mizoram CM Joram Thanga and former Meghalaya CM Donkoper Roy as advisers.
