JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

No respite from rhino poaching

Forest guards the famed abode of one horn rhinos found a carcass of the one horn animal in the Agoratoli range on Saturday. Youth held for death threat to Zubeen

The Dibrugah police on Saturday arrested a youth a day after he threaten to kill Zubeen Garg who was arriving his hone town and performed for nearly three hours. Identified as Tultul Baglary, he was caught in Barbarua area in the morning and was brought to the police station for interrogation which is going on. A Facebook status warning that the singer would be shot dead from a point blank range went viral in the evening forcing the district authority to step up security in the function were the most popular singer was performing. He received the death threat hardly a week after he stepped down from a stage in Guwahati for disallowing to perform in Hindi.

Naked protest in Diphu

In a bizarre show of shock and anger hundreds of Karbi youths representing 24 organization staged an unprecedented naked protest alleging lack of response to the demands they gave been raising for years. Young advocate Gun Gun Talukder recently passed away following after a brief illness. Talukder practiced in Kamrup lower courts and he left behind his mother Konika Talukder, wife Meera Talukder, son Anyun and daughter Pujita along with a host of other relatives. Security forces apprehended a NDFB-S link man at Hakma under Gossaigaon PS in Kokrajhar district late last evening on Wednesday.
