JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Amid a massive security arrangement the polling  in the Dhemaji assembly by election concluded with huge turn out. Of the five candidates, the luckiest would be announced on April 13 afternoon after the final round of vote counting. Senior physicians from Panbazar based MMC hospital Dr Madhab Rajbongshi and Dr Hitendra Nath Chakravarty graced the evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday for the benefit of its members along with their dependants. Over 30 participants received necessary consultations from the doctors after regular check-up of blood pressures. Staff nurses Sewali Deka Pathak and Gitumoni Thakuria supported the camp. Senior Congress leader and former minister Sumitra Patir joined BJP in Dhemaji on Friday just three days before the  assembly by elections. Patir, who elected to the assembly twice with Congress ticket joined the ruling party at a brief function at the Dhemaji Circuit House attended by Chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal and senior cabinet colleague Himanta Biswa Sarma.
