JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Two people were charred to death when a gas tanker caught fire after hitting a tree in Nagaon district of Assam on Wednesday. The incident took place at Baghjan area in Koliabor where a Guwahati bound gas tanker hit a huge tree on the roadside resulting in a huge inferno where the truck driver and his associate were burnt alive. ULFA’s Paresh Baruah faction has asked the Dalai Lama not to speak ill of China during his upcoming visit to Assam. In a statement, ULFA(I) chairman Dr Abhijit Asom said that his anti-China remarks on the soil of Assam might trigger a 1962 like aggression on the state. An Assam police team has landed in Guwahati with Soobidh Biswas whom they arrested early in the morning on Wednesday 16 days after he allegedly incited violence in Silapothar.
