JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

2 burnt alive as gas tanker hits tree

Two people were charred to death when a gas tanker caught fire after hitting a tree in Nagaon district of Assam on Wednesday. The incident took place at Baghjan area in Koliabor where a Guwahati bound gas tanker hit a huge tree on the roadside resulting in a huge inferno where the truck driver and his associate were burnt alive. Immediately the inferno spread to the nearby houses and within an hour three houses were reduced to ashes. Fire tenders arrived in the spot. But by then fire engulfed the three houses. Don’t speak ill of China: ULFA-I to Dalai Lama

ULFA’s Paresh Baruah faction has asked the Dalai Lama not to speak ill of China during his upcoming visit to Assam. In a statement, ULFA(I) chairman Dr Abhijit Asom said that his anti-China remarks on the soil of Assam might trigger a 1962 like aggression on the state. Police remand for Soobodh

Dhemaji police got remand of Soobodh Biswas for nine days after the main accused in the Silapothar incident was produced a lower court on Monday. Medanta-Medicity doctors conducted press club clinic

Prez to visit Assam on March 31

President Pranab Mukherjee will be on a day long visit to Assam on March 31 to open the Namani Festival in Guwahati. Assam governor B Puruhit, chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal along with many central minister's are scheduled to attend the opening ceremony in Guwahati. Biswas brought to Guwahati

An Assam police team has landed in Guwahati with Soobidh Biswas whom they arrested early in the morning on Wednesday 16 days after he allegedly incited violence in Silapothar. Immediately after it, Biswas and his associate were taken to an undisclosed location to be grilled on the allegations of inciting violence in Silapothar on March 6. Former minister dead in Delhi

Sarma, the former health minister of state in the PK Mahanta council of ministers in 1985 breathed his last at 9 in the morning at the Gangaram Hospital in the capital where he was undergoing treatment for a couple of weeks. His body would be flown to his home town in Jorhat on Thursday where many political leaders, social activists have been waiting to pay him their last respect.
