JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

ULFA-I slams Chakravartty

ULFA-I on Wednesday latched senior journalist Dhirendranath Chakravartty asking him to desist from making any harmful comment. In a statement, the outfit said his recent statement on the further division of Assam has no taker. Delhi AIR to stop Assamese bulletins

In a move that triggers statewide protest in Assam, the All India Radio in New Delhi will scrap Assamese news bulletin from March 1, 2017. The All India Radio authorities have confirmed it on Wednesday leaving the people associated in this section jobless. The AIR news services division will stop broadcasting news both the national news bulletins in thus language from March 1 next. Rhino poaching rerun in Kaziranga

Poachers have killed yet another rhino in the Kaziranga National Park for horn triggering anger among the cross section of the people who blamed the authority for it.The incident took place early in the morning in the Burhapahar range if the park near the Tunikati camp where the poachers shot a full fledged rhino dead and took away the horn.Forest guards spotted the animal in the morning. “We don't understand why the forest guards are ill prepared which is why one after another rhino is killed for horn. SC asks govt to release funds for NRC

The Supreme Court has asked the government at the Centre to release the remaining amount of the fund required to update the national register of citizens in Assam.Reviewing progress of the ongoing process, a division bench of the country’s apex court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and RF Nariman on Tuesday asked the Centre to expedite the release of the fund.Nodal officer P Hajeela told the court that it has not received the fund beyond Rs 307 crore to proceed further.
