JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Security forces start fanning in Jagun area in search of ULFA-I and NSCN-K a day after the dreaded rebels killed three Assam Rifles jawans at an ambush.Army, police and para military forces have cordoned off a huge area conducting a combing operation against the rebels behind the ambush on Sunday morning.According to reports, at least 40 ULFA-I and NSCN-K rebels have been camping in upper Assam to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations on Thursday. One more Assam Rifles jawan succumed to injuries in Sunday’s rebel attack in Tinsukia district. He was declared dead on Sunday night 12 hours after he was rushed to the hospital. Two others died a couple of hours after a joint team of ULFA-I and NSCN-K rebels ambushed a vehicle of Assam Rifles escorting a team of foreign tourists at Jagun in the morning. Rifles jawans died when ULFA-I and NSCN-K rebel jointly ambushed the vehicles of the para military forces in Tinsukia district on Sunday. The incident took place near  Jagun area bordering Arunachal Pradesh where the Assam Rifles jawans were escorting a team of foreign tourists who attended a winter festival. As the convoy reach Jagun, rebels lobbed grenade at the security forces and started indiscriminate firing from the jungle. The injured jawans were rushed to the hospital where the duo succumbed to injuries.
A local court in Guwahati sent Rakesh Paul to five days police custody for further interrogation in connection with the nefarious recruitment racket. The special investigation team probing the racket moved the court for custodial interrogation if the state public service commission chairman.
