JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Confusion over B’deshi deportation

Union home ministry is believed to have been caught in an utter confusion when the Karimganj district authorities were preparing to deport 17 Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. Highly placed sources told Asam Times that the district authorities were well prepared to deport these 17 immigrants who were lodged in jail for the last one and half year. PNB disburses loans to entrepreneurs

Punjab National Bank (PNB) in a credit disbursement camp held recently at NIRD, Guwahati, disbursed loan amounts up to rupees 51.20 crore to 408 customers. Gangmumei Kamei passes away

Professor Gangmumei Kamei, a member in North Eastern Council (NEC) passed away on Friday at the age 77 years in Imphal. His demise was condoled in a meeting held at the Shillong based NEC Secretariat. Born in the Manipur capital city on 21 October 1939, Prof Kamei was associated with several socio-cultural organizations in the country. He was a member of the advisory committee of the Anthropological Survey of India (1984-87).
