JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Puja fever continues

Durga puja fever still grips Assam as the annual Hindu festival enters fourth day on Monday. Puja pendals in the nook and corner of the premier north eastern state are teeming with devotees of all ages who are offering pujas to the goddess of strength for peace and prosperity. Amid the sounds of hymns, drums and cymbals, the devotees started waiting in long queue in front of the goddess to seek her blessings from early in the morning. Kaziranga adds new feature

Kaziranga has added a new feature on its cap when the famed abode of one horn rhino found place in KLM flight. In a major boost to Assam’s tourism front, Boeing 777-300ER belonging to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has added PH-BVO named after the Kaziranga National Park which flies in between New York & Amsterdam. Wildlife week concludes

The 62nd wildlife week concluded at Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve on Friday. The concluding day of the programme was attended by noted veterinary surgeon Dr Kushal Sarma, HoD, Surgery, College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara. APFEJ expresses concern over China dam on Brahmaputra

Huge blockade hits transport

A huge road blockade on a vital road in the outskirt of Guwahati heavily disrupted transport services on Saturday. Thousands of people in Kukurmora area near Boko blocked the National Highway No 37 a day after the Sarbananda Sonowal Government rejected erstwhile Gogoi Government’s move to create the South Kamrup district.
