JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

AJYCP demands Rs 10,000 cr for flood hit

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday gave hint of a massive agitation alleging Centre’s indifference towards Assam where lakhs of people have been reeling under flood that has claimed nearly 40 people. Sanitary napkin-vending machine installed at press club

With an aim to address the periodical problems faced by lady member-journalists hygienically, a sanitary napkin-vending machine was installed at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on 27 July 2016. Flood recedes, woes surges

Assam flood scene seems to have improved marginally on Sunday as the water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have started receding in many places. A huge convention in Guwahati on Saturday has vehemently opposed the Centre’s move to accord refugee status to the neighbouring Hindu nationals fearing that the north eastern state would have to bear the brunt. The overall flood scene refuses to improve on Saturday where the toll has gone up to 36 following the death of 8 more people on Friday alone.
