JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Caught in a barrage of protest, the forest department has asked senior officer MT Timung to probe the shoot out in Kaziranga where a minor boy sustained grave injury on Sunday.The authority has further suspended the accused forest guard Manas Bora who targeted Akash Orang who was on his way back to his home in the evening near the Solmara forest camp.The department will bear the entire expenditure for treatment of Akash Orang who was injured in the incident.The department announced this following a huge protest on the National Highway demanding immediate action against the forest guard whom thousands of local people caught after the incident.

Union minister of state for railway Rajen Gohain blames it all on the third force for the recent Raha incident where a local protestor was killed in police firing. Security forces claimed to have gunned down three hard core NDFB-S rebels during a series of counter insurgency operations in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. The three insurgents were killed in three different incidents of shoot outs in the wee hours. According to information, they were killed in encounters at a dense jungle.
