JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

HRC notice to government on poisonous gas leakge in Guwahati

A division bench of the Assam Human Rights Commission issued notice to the Chief Secretary, Assam on , February 24 calling upon him to cause an inclusive enquiry to be conducted into the incident of leakage of some toxic gas through the concerning technological as well as administrative authorities and submit the report thereof before this Commission within 30(thirty) days of receipt of the Notice. Protest March against anti-nationals

Protesting against the rising of anti-nationals and subsequent nurturing of the separatist elements in various parts of the country, Patriotic People’s Front Assam has appealed to the citizens to participate in a Protest March on Saturday (27 March 2016), which is scheduled to start at 11 am from the front of Guwahati Press Club. JFA condemns murder of journalists, demands justice

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) has expressed shock at the recent killing of a journalist in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and reiterated for its old demand for a special protection law for the working journalists across the country. PPFA hails flying tri-colour at JNU
