JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

HANTIGIRI NARZARY, KOKRAJHAR: Kanakeswar Narzary’s contribution for the Bodo people came up for a livelier discussion when ABSU observed his 11st death anniversary in Kokrajhar on Sunday. Organized by Ramfalbill anchalik committee of ABSU, the death anniversary was attended by Hirabai Narzary, widow of late Narzary, who paid floral tribute to Narzary on the occasion. Lawrence Isalry,president of Kokrajhar district unit of ABSU graced the function chief guest and addressed recalling contributions of late Narzary during Bodoland movement as well as chief of BAC in his political career among the poor people. Narzary died October 12,2003 at a private nursing home in Kolkata.
Tripura police remains clueless a day after suspected NLFT militants abducted 11 including 5 from Assam persons from Amchurmukh at gunpoint. Operation is going on to rescue the workers. HANTIGIRI NARZARY, KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar joined the 150th birth anniversary of Lakhminath Bezbaruah at Rashmela ground along with other parts of the state on Saturday. Hundreds of people participated in the birth anniversary by paying floral tribute to the Rasraj organised by Kokrajhar district unit of All Assam Students Union(AASU). Sahitya Akademy awardee and writer Haricharan Boro and Prof Nabajyoti Sarma,Bodoland University attended the function as guests.
