JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Athlete beaten up branding witch

Yet another incident of witch hunting sends shockwaves across the state where a national level athlete was not spared. Nagaland youths roughed up in Gurgaon

Incidents of racist attack on the north east people refuse to die down. Goons in Gurgaon assaulted two youths from Nagaland on Thursday a day after a Manipur student was beaten up by local youths in Bangore.The fresh incident took place at Gurgaon where over ten local goons caught Awang and Chester in Sikanderpur area and mercilessly beat up with cricket bats and hockey sticks.According to the complaint, a few youths took them to a nearby market at around 1 midnight to be beaten up. Their hairs were cut off and asked them to leave the area along with their friends. Later the duo were rushed to a nearby Civil Hospital where they have been undergoing treatment.

HC summons Kokrajhar MP

In a significant move, the Gauhati High Court has issued a summon to Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania asking him to appear before it immediately in connection with a petition  against him.Taking up a petition challenging his election to the Lok Sabha with ST documents the court earlier asked him to appear before the court two times. But he failed to turn up. The is court is likely to issue a news paper notice asking him to appear before it.He won the Lok Sabha polls procuring an ST certificate from the Tribal Sangha which was later challenged by his rival candidate Janak Lal Basumatary.....................

Manas opens on Sunday

Come Sunday. Manas National Park is gearing up to open for the tourists. The park authorities have been busy in the dressing the park afresh. Preparations are afoot.Altogether 65 local youths have been trained up on nature guide. The training was imparted in a joint initiative under the Manas Tiger Conservation Foundation along with NGO support from ATREE, WWF-India, Aaranyak, WTI, Manas Ever welfare Society, Saving Tigers and Manas Jeep Safari Association. Manipur student attacked in B’lore

In yet another case of racial discrimination against the north east people, goons in Bangalore severally attacked an engineering student from Manipur. Woman trafficker held in Delhi

Delhi police have arrested a businessman acting on an allegation that he trafficked a woman from Assam to the capital ten years ago. The 25 year old woman further alleged that during this period she was raped and forcibly married to a man in Haryana.After managing to escape she was caught by the same trafficker Munna Chowdhury who procured her ten years back later to be arrested by the Rajouri Garden police station on Tuesday.
